Underwater Inspection & Substructure Repairs for walkway over the Hudson, Poughkeepsie
Railroad Bridge“Walkway over the Hudson”, New York
In 2010, Hydro-Marine Construction Co., Inc. completed substructure repairs to Poughkeepsie Railroad bridge piers. Pier foundations were erected on rock filled cribbing, which had developed large voids and loss of fill. In addition, concrete pier faces exhibited extensive/heavy spalling requiring repairs. Prior to beginning work, a detailed work plan was developed including: proposed location of work barges, most efficient sequence of operations, logistics of transporting concrete to the site.
Hydro-Marine divers installed grout bags in the voided areas under the pier footing. Deep spalling in the face of the concrete piers was repaired using permanent formwork along the pier face with concrete pumped behind it. All work was done in accordance with project specifications and completed within 4 months; by December 2010.
