Installation of Scour Monitoring Systems at Garden State Parkway Bridge over Mullica River
Mullica River Bridge – Port Republic, New Jersey
In 2012, Hydro-Marine Construction Co., Inc. was retained by Agate Construction to install scour monitoring systems along concrete piers. The systems included conduits, protective PVC pipes, monitoring cables, and sensors. The monitoring systems’ purpose is to monitor channel bottom elevations, altering the controller when elevations reach a preselected elevation indicating scouring activity. All materials were installed and anchored to the Pier face in accordance with contract plans and specifications. Grout bags were placed on top of exposed cable areas spanned across tops of concrete pier footings to prevent movement and to protect the cables from damage.
